A research-backed web navigation model that organizes services around how people actually think — not how businesses organize internally.

The Insight

When a person visits a service-oriented website — whether it's a solar company, a law firm, a government office, or a clinic — their brain follows a natural sequence of questions:

  1. "Is this for someone like me?" — They need to see themselves reflected in the site.
  2. "What do I actually need?" — They want to find the specific service that matches their situation.
  3. "What's involved?" — They want to understand requirements, fees, timelines, and implications before committing.
  4. "How do I do it?" — They want clear, step-by-step instructions to take action.

The Four Layers

Identity
"Who am I?"

The first thing a visitor encounters is not a list of services or a wall of text. Instead, they see identities — recognizable personas that reflect who they are:

By selecting their identity, the visitor immediately signals their context. The system now knows who they are and can filter everything that follows. Irrelevant services, requirements, and information disappear.

Why this works: When people see themselves reflected in a system, they feel recognized. Trust forms instantly. The cognitive load drops to near zero — instead of scanning 30 options, they choose from 4-6 clear identities.

After identifying themselves, the visitor sees only the services relevant to their identity. A homeowner sees residential solar, electrical contracting, and CCTV installation. A business owner sees commercial solar, generator services, and industrial solutions.

Each identity maps to a curated set of services. No clutter. No irrelevant options. The visitor's intention becomes clear through a focused, decidable set of choices.

Why this works: Hick's Law tells us that decision time increases logarithmically with options. By presenting 3-6 relevant services instead of 15+ generic ones, the decision becomes effortless.

Once the visitor selects a service, they land on a detail page that answers every question they'd ask before committing:

Why this works: Progressive disclosure — showing information only when the visitor is ready for it — prevents cognitive overload. They never see irrelevant requirements for other customer types or details about services they haven't chosen.

"How do I do it?"

The final layer converts understanding into action. Clear, numbered steps tell the visitor exactly what to do:

  1. Schedule a free consultation
  2. Site survey and assessment
  3. Receive your proposal and quote
  4. Approve and sign the agreement
  5. Installation and handover

Each step includes a description of what happens, what the visitor needs to do, and what to expect. Forms, contact buttons, and booking tools are placed at this layer — not scattered randomly across the site.

Why this works: By the time a visitor reaches the Instruction layer, they've already self-identified, chosen their service, understood the requirements, and built trust. The call-to-action isn't cold — it's the natural next step. Conversion rates increase because friction has been systematically removed at each prior layer.
